Located on Vineyard Drive, the Whalebone tasting room sits inconspicuously on a hilltop away from roadside traffic. The production facilities for this label are in plain view and it is not uncommon to see winemaker Travis Hutchinson working on the newest vintage of estate Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Prominently displayed throughout the property are 28 million year old whale bone vertebra. These fossils date back to the Paleogene period and were trapped under the vineyards broken shale and limestone. Enjoy a tasting flight ($10) waived per red wine bottle purchase or two bottle purchase of rose. Cheese plates ($5) and Charcuterie ($5) are available for purchase. This location welcomes outside picnic items in the patio area with umbrellas. Water dishes are also provided for 4 legged patrons, who are welcome on a leash. Beef meat is available for sale inside the tasting room, which is raised on the Simpson’s Cattle Ranch.

  • 2015 Ballena Rosa
The aromatics of our 2015 Ballena Rosa are driven with fresh strawberry, peach, and lychee nut. The flavor profile begins with stone fruit and cherry flavors that transition to a lush mid palate. This vintage pairs wonderfully with a great deal of appetizers, summer salads, and works incredibly well as aperitif.
  • 2016 Ballena Rosa
Aromatically, our Rosé is driven with strawberry and refreshing minerality. On the palate, Ballena Rosa has refreshing acidity, a great luscious mouthfeel and is driven with market berry flavors. Pair with your simple summer picnic faire.
  • 2014 Bob Wine
Aromatically, the 2014 Bob Wine is held together with Merlot centric chocolate covered cherries, brown sugar, and cinnamon from the Cabernet Sauvignon frame. On the palate, our 2014 Bob is driven with black fruit, cherry and sweet oak wrapped up in a velvety texture with an incredible finish that is lasting on the palate. This wine pairs wonderfully with every day cusine in your home.
  • 2014 Boneyard
As a classic example of West Side Rhone, our 2014 Boneyard is one of our flagship and long standinf blends. The stage is set with aromas of black fruit, sage and sweet French oak. With lovely structure and genuine flavors of raspberry, strawberry, and black pepper. The midpalate transitions to a cocoa laden finish with subleties of cherry and blue fruit.
  • 2015 Boneyard
Aromatically, our 2015 Boneyard Red is a rich wine driven by ripe red fruits, bay and a delicate touch of new French oak. On the palate, this wine is equally concentrated as it is rich. Flavors of raspberry and strawberry drive the flavor profile with underlying notes of mint, sage, sweet French oak and a lovely structure that allows this to pair with BBQ or coq au vin (French dish of braised chicken and wine)
  • 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon
The alkaline, limestone soils aid in giving our fruit its juicy acidity, lively aromatics, and intense color. Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of our 4 vineyard blocks, Rocky Ridge, West Hills, Pasture and Valley. Aromatically, this vintage is driven by cassis, chocolate, and graphite. This wine is big on the palate with notes of cocoa powder, black berry jam and has structure for days that beckons food pairing. This wine is perfect for steak but handles even the richest cuisine. Try it with Whalebone grass fed beef!
  • 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon
Our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts fresh aromatics of market berries like blackberry, raspberry, and cherry. These aromas are supported by approximately 2new French oak and 10% new American oak. As a more fruit driven wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon boast bright acidity that allows this wine to be versatile at the table. This wine pairs wonderfully with bbq meat and pasta dishes and even some seafood!
  • 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Only the best barrels of our Cabernet Sauvignon make it into the Reserve bottling. the 2014 vintage consists of 88% Rocky Ridge and 1Valley with approximately 5New French Oak. This wine begins with a massive explosion of dusty, rocky, black fruit. The palate has great depth and is quite chewy. Finish is driven by blue and black fruit with cinnamon dancing in the background.
  • 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Our 2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits every essence of a barrel select program. We hand selected only the best barrels from our Cabernet to go into the blend. It consists of a blend of our Rocky Ridge and West Hills blocks, which generally exhibits ideal fruit character and concentration. Compsed of new French Oak and 10% New American Oak, our 2013 Reserve is driven aromatically with black cherry, blackberry, toast and cassis. The lush flavor profile begins with raspberry, cinnamon and blackberry flavors that are framed with round, integrated tannins.
  • 2015 Rancho Deluxe
Aromatically our 2015 Rancho Deluxe is driven with cassis, blackberry, and a hint of cinnamon. The flavor profile on our 2015 vintage begins with raspberry then transitions to a mid-palate rich with French oak and a nicely structured finsih. The whole blend is bordelaise (red wine, bone marrow, shallot, butter sauce) drive although it is only 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The incredible power and concentration from the 2015 vintage allows this wine to be enjoyed now or can benefit from aging. Pair this with steak or chicken grilled oven a oak pit
  • 2014 Rancho Deluxe
This blend has inspiration from the Rhone and Bordeaux school. Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon as the base bring a brooding body of cassis, blueberry, tobacco and cedar. The flavor profile has just the right amount of oak sweetness to support the fruit forward nature of this wine. Not firmly structured, the flavor of market berry and bramble allow this to accompany every day cuisine along with the most complex dishes
  • 2014 Zinfandel
  • 2015 Zinfandel
Aromatically layered with brambly red and black fruits with a lovely note of white cake batter. On the palate, our 2015 Zinfandel is driven with raspberry, white chocolate and notes of Feench and American oak. One of my favorite pairings for Zinfandel/ with its rich texture and full mouthfeel is Chinese food.
