Located in downtown Solvang, Casa Cassara's urban tasting room is pouring estate grown Pinot Noir. This winery is also producing Chardonnay from Brent Melville's vineyard in Los Alamos. The Cassara's have partnered with winemaker Kyle Knapp to produce wine on the property that once served as a family retreat. Vines were planted on the estate in 1990 when Brian Babcock, a family friend suggested the idea. In 2000 Casa Cassara partnered with Andy Kahn to produce a Pinot Noir that won a Bronze Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. We were surprised to discover that this location does not charge a tasting fee. Crackers, charcuterie and other small snacks are available for purchase and children are welcome.

  • 2015 Chardonnay
This Chardonnay sourced from Verna’s Vineyard in Los Alamos was whole cluster pressed. Half of it was fermented in Stainless tanks with QA 23 and Elegance yeast, the other half was barrel fermented in French oak using native yeast. The wine was aged for 6 months in neutral French Oak Barrels, the lees were stirred for the first 3 months to add texture to the wine.
  • 2013 Dago Red
We blended this wine in honor of my Grandfather Angelo “Sam” Cassara. Grandpa came to the US in 1911 and worked as a barber in Chicago. When WWI broke out he was drafted into the American Army where he earned his citizenship. In 1919 Grandpa returned to his native Sicily, sold the family farm and married Grandma. They returned to Chicago and raised their family. Like most immigrants he made his own wine. His was a blend of red and white grapes similar to Chianti. My father helped. Grandpa would go to the basement every night before dinner and fill a pitcher with his creation, affectionately known as Dago Red. The family would drink the wine out of water glasses.
  • 2013 Grenache
On the nose you get earthy minerals, black cherry and hints of tobacco. In the mouth it has light tannins, black cherry, raspberry and pepper on the finish. There is a perfect blend of fruit and earth with hints of oak that remind me of bourbon.
  • 2013 Pinot Noir Estate
It opens with bright, fresh fruit flavors and finishes with a light hint of toasted oak. We let this fruit hang a little longer for a bigger bolder flavor profile. This wine is still everything you have grown to expect and love about our cool climate and rocky soil here in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA and more. It’s ready to drink now or lay it down for a while
  • 2015 Rosé
This year we decided to do something different for our Rose program. This fruit came from Indian Ditch Ranch in Santa Ynez and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. To the nose this Rose’ puts us in mind of a Watermelon Jolly Rancher, on the pallet we get sweet strawberry with dragon fruit on the finish. We think this is a great summer wine for brunch or sipping by the pool on a warm afternoon.
  • 2014 Sauvignon Blanc
This Sauvignon Blanc is an unfined and unfiltered wine that opens up with a fresh and almost sweet grassy smell. It is light and clean with hints of crisp green apple. The gentle acidity is reminiscent of lemons picked fresh off the vine. This wine would pair well with fruit, light cheeses, green salad, and fresh seafood, scallops and white fish.
