Located in Santa Ynez Valley, Kalyra Winery is the personal label of Australian winemaker Michael Brown. Mike Brown is a third generation wine maker who studied at UC Davis and fell in love with California. Kalyra is Aboriginal for "a wild and pleasant place." Enjoy the outdoor patio and seating area that overlooks serene vineyard landscape. Lawn areas are used for games on sunny days and seating for movie nights. Pets are welcome outdoors and must be on a leash. Kalyra has a multifaceted portfolio of quality products that includes White Wine, Sparkling, Italian, Bordeaux and Dessert. Enjoy a classic tasting flight ($12), dessert tasting flight ($12) or snacks for sale at the bar. Kalyra was Sandra Oh's place of employment in the 2004 movie Sideways. The Tiki bar featured in the tasting room is still available for an authentic Sideways Instargam post.

  • 2010 Barbera
Barbera is another one of our Italian varietals, it is the third most planted grape variety in Italy. Our 2010 is a lighter bodied wine with a very deep color and low tannins. On the palette you will get strong notes of cherries and blueberries and hints of raspberry and dried fruit on the nose. This Barbera is soft enough to be a perfect sipping wine or can also be paired with various dishes as well. Pair it with: Grilled chicken with citrus and fennel or pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella and sausage
  • 2013 Cashmere
The rich ruby color of this wine reveals the deliciously silky cherry and blackberry notes that hit your taste buds first, followed by a subtle smokiness that finishes with mild tannins.
  • 2014 Gewurztraminer
Gewurztraminer can be loosely classified as a secret love affair between a stubborn rigid block head engineer from Germany and a natural loving sincere artesian cheese maker from Alsace. So intense and consistent and yet so deep and organic. Kalyra’s 2014 Gewurztraminer is off dry, unfiltered and powerfully floral aromatically with cavernous characteristics of cinnamon spice, lychee and coconut. Pair it with: Indian spiced foods, Thai cuisine or as Mike recommends sticking to regionally focused foods like some creamy stinky French cheese or gamey German meats or sausage
  • 2014 Merlot
2014 was a nice, warm year for Merlot at the Old College Ranch Vineyard (Vina de Santa Ynez). Harvest started early so the grapes were able to stay on the vine longer and produce a grape that was a bit riper than most. This leads to a nice, rich Merlot, with a lot of flavor and depth. The soft tannins should age this wine nicely. This is NOT your Sideways Merlot.
  • NV 239 Rose
  • NV Black Muscat
A blend of both the 2007 and 2008 harvests, this new Black Muscat (Muscato Nero) is rich in raspberry, boysenberry, and strawberry accents with a lovely floral aroma.
  • NV Kalyra Muscato Sparkling
  • NV Rare Tawny Port
With an outstanding history of creating award-winning Rare Tawny Ports, Mike Brown has just released his latest portfolio edition. It is perhaps his finest thus far. Aged in French Hogshead under the Solero aging method, this port is truly opulent, showing off flavors of dark berry fruit, as well as raisin, prune and just a touch of Hazelnut. The color is a typical brick tawny brown, with an aged smoky finish. This is the creme de la creme of fine tawny ports. Enjoy. Pair it with: Stilton cheese, figs, almonds and pear or apple slices, for the cigar aficionado, sip it with a fine cuban cigar
  • 2014 Orange Muscat (375 Ml)
We are delighted to release the new vintage of one of our most famous and beloved dessert wines. As with Mike Brown's previous Orange Muscat wine vintages, this newly released dessert wine is produced from Orange Muscat grapes sourced from the very warm growing regions of Madera County in Northern California. Take these grapes and the skills of one of the best Santa Ynez wineries and you have yourself a true winner. This particular Muscat dessert wine was fortified during fermentation for a resultant 1alcohol and 8% residual sugar. It has nicely balanced flavors of citrus, apricot with a touch of orange blossom and honey on the nose, serve this wine chilled. You can keep this vintage for many years with little change. Once opened it will last a number of months stored in the refrigerator. This exquisite California dessert wine is perfect for immediate consumption or to enjoy with friends in the years to come. Pair it with: A non-fruit dessert such as crème brûlée or a warm chocolate brownie with vanilla bean ice cream
  • 2016 Pinot Bianco
The 2016 Pinot Bianco was picked early this year from Curtis Vineyard on Foxen Canyon Road because the flavors were so nice. The acid and sugars are well balanced and the juice was cold fermented in stainless steel to maintain that crisp fruit. This is a very crisp, refreshing white showing a lot of tropical notes and green apple. It will pair nicely with the warm weather. While it’s delicious now, it should age nicely over the next 12-18 months.
  • 2015 Pinot Noir
The 2015 Pinot Noir comes from grapes grown in the very famous Santa Rita Hills Appellation. Moderate heat and coastal fog create excellent growing conditions for Pinot grapes. This complez and difficult grape make production of Pinot Noir reliant on delicate balance of nature's cooperation and the winemaker's patience. Smooth with mild tannins, but rich in berry flavor and color, this balanced wine pairs well with organic poultry, fresh vegetables, wild mushrooms, as well as most charcuterie plates.
  • 2014 Riesling
The noble Riesling grape has long been associated with the rich, sweeter styles of Germany, as well as from the Rhone and Mosel Valleys. Its new world styles, particularly in Australia, have demonstrated a much drier and crisper character. Winemaker Mike Brown has followed this style in this Barrel Select Riesling. The fruit was sourced from the Vina De Santa Inez (at the back of the winery). In Aussie tradition, it was kept back one year in the bottle for that classic bottle bouquet.
  • 2015 Sangiovese
  • 2016 Sauvignon Blanc
This years vintage of Sauvignon Blanc is sure to be the perfect pairing with your fair-weather activities. This Sauvignon Blanc has a light mouthfeel, but quite a few different citrus notes such as peach, grapefruit and lychee with a touch of grassiness along the palate as well. The crisp acidity leads to a fresh green apple finish that is sure to keep you going back for another sip. Pair this with simple grilled or fried fish, or fresh Mediterranean fare.
  • 2014 Verdelho
Bursting with peaches and apricots on the nose, this wine makes you nostalgic for homemade peach cobbler. This Portuguese varietal is richer in flavor, with hints of hazelnut and agave syrup. Pair this with figs and goat cheese and savor to your heart’s content.
