Koehler Winery is one of our favorite stops along the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail. This location features multiple outdoor settings that are perfect for small groups and sunny afternoons. The estates impressive views are beautiful year round. To prove this point we feature the Koehler Estate in the month of December. Enjoy a signature flight ($15) or premium flight ($20). This location hosts food trucks on Saturday evenings during warm months (April-September). Outside food and pets on a leash are welcome in patio areas. This winery also has emus and Barbados sheep located on the far end of the property. These interesting creatures will pose for Instagram shots but hands and objects should remain behind the fence. This portion of the wine trail can attract large crowds. If you arrive at this location and cannot find a spot at the bar we recommend buying wine by the glass. White wine is $12 a glass and red wine is $15.

Dominated by aromatics of spicy cassis, exotic cigar box and forest floor, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon hints at even greater complexity on the palate. • 2014 Chardonnay
The nose yields aromas of fragrant orange blossom, ripe quince, and traces of fresh baked goods. The first sip reveals flavors of baked lemon tart and green apple with crisp acid. Secondary nuances of tropical pineapple and guava give way to a finish of creamy marshmallow and golden toast.
  • 2013 Grenache
The 2013 Grenache vines were pruned to produce only one cluster per shoot, which equals a mere 1.5 tons per acre. Quality over quantity indeed. The Grenache was fermented over ten days, and then aged for 20 months in 148 gallon puncheons. Medium ruby in color, the wine entices one with a subtle bouquet of fresh strawberries, cedar box, and tea leaves. Further inspection of this medium bodied red reveals pomegranate on the palate punctuated by moderate acidity. The wine finishes with whispers of cherry cobbler, cinnamon stick, and dried currants.
  • 2016 Grenache Blanc
The lightest of straw in color with aromas of ripe quince, fragrant white flowers and green apple. Asian pear on the first sip gives way to balanced acidity mid palate. It finishes with lingering notes of honeydew and exotic ginger.
  • 2013 Les Trois Cepage

Soft, easy tannins make this a crowd pleaser.

  • 2014 Riesling

Juicy scratch cranberry sauce and mouth-watering cherries come to mind with an initial sip. Further examination exposes fruit roll-up and something akin to strawberry-rhubarb pie. This very food friendly wine displays a tannic architecture on which is hung the ripe and ample fruit.
  • 2014 Sauvignon Blanc
This brilliant white wine presents subtle aromas of lime zest, soft orange blossom, and wet stone. It shines brightly with acidity but also reveals notes of exotic pomelo and rich meringue. From hints of Granny Smith apple, the wine finishes clean and fresh.
  • 2014 Syrah Estate
Slightly toasty notes compliment the typical aromas of spicy boysenberry, black olive, and smoked meats. While not necessarily fruit driven, there is still a juicy berry component backed by subtle cinnamon and vanilla. The Syrah finishes with dark jam, peppered with hints of cocoa and anise.
  • 2013 Tempranillo
Fruit leather, spicy clove, and subtle cigar box mingle in the nose. Rich dark cherry, light vanilla and toasted bread shine on the palate. While thick skins provide ample tannin, the finish is characterized by ripe currants, smooth carob, and subtle cola.
