Winery
Located in downtown Solvang, Lucas and Lewellen is serving French style wine. Founded by Louis Lucas and Royce Lewellen, the label is now managed by Michael Lewellen and Megan McGrath Gates as winemaker. Lucas and Lewellen have a large portfolio of estate grown wines including Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir and Santa Ynez Valley Chardonnay. We always arrive unannounced and we were not allowed to take pictures at this location. Expect to find this tasting room filled with loyal wine club members and staff that do not have time for hand holding if you are new to the wine game.

2013 Cabernet FrancCabernet Franc is a very old variety which is still dominant in parts of the Loire Valley and Bordeaux. Warm summer temperatures allowed these grapes to fully ripen, giving this wine color, body, flavor and aroma. The Cabernet Franc grapes for this wine were hand-picked from two of our estate vineyards: Los Alamos Valley and Valley View Vineyard. 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Clone 6Grown in a 3 acre block on our Valley View Vineyard, Clone 6 Cabernet is typified by loose bunches with small berries that produce remarkable intensity of color, flavor, and body. The 2013 vintage of Lucas & Lewellen "Clone 6" Cabernet Sauvignon boasts notes of black currant, plum, and cassis, laced with a thread of woodsy spice through the mid-palate and finish. Perfectly suited to robust meat dishes, decant and allow to breathe for an hour before enjoying. This wine may be enjoyed now or it will continue to impress with bottle aging through 2022.

2014 High 9 Pinot NoirThis is a limited vintage from the highest nine acre block of the Goodchild Vineyard, an outstanding location to grow the superior clone 667. It was aged sur lees in Francois Ferrar oak barrels bringing forth the natural flavors of bright red fruit with smooth tannins and a lingering finish.

2013 Queen of Hearts ChardonnayOur Queen of Hearts Chardonnay offers up fresh and zesty ripe fruit flavors like Golden Delicious apple, Bartlett pear, honey and flowers. Unlike many of today’s Chardonnays, it is cold fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its bright, fresh aromas and flavors. This wine was bottled in the flower of its youth to capture the true flavor of the grape on the day of harvest. Enjoy this wine with seafood, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes.

2016 RoséThe wine is complex with layers of strawberry crème, raspberry and peach, floral notes of white blossoms and a fruity core of red berries. It is brilliant with crisp acidity and a smooth mouthfeel.

2015 Rosé de Santa BarbaraA saignee of hand-harvested Malbec for its high tone fruity notes and Pinot Noir for strawberry yeasty attributes was blended with Viognier to add floral flavors. Once crushed, the grapes were left on their pigmented skin for several hours, then gently pressed and the delicious pink juice was cold fermented to preserve fresh flavors of berries, wet stone, and alyssum blossoms. Crisp on entry with a lilting minerality and bright finish, this Rosé pairs beautifully with goat cheese, picnic fare, cioppino, and summer salads.
