Located in the Lompoc Wine Ghetto, Dark Water Winery is a tribute to the Chumash Indians who occupied the canyons and hillsides of the Central Coast. Water transit by canoe was necessary for survival and portage. Many of the wayfarers left the shore early in the morning on "dark water." Winemaker David Mazzonetto rises in the morning to steward the coastal regions once occupied by the tribe. The Dark Water facility in Lompoc is producing 1500 cases of handcrafted Italian wines per year including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Merlot. Pictured with this review is the free range (Italian inspired) charcuterie made by David. The meats used to create this product are locally sourced from a 145 acre ranch in Paso Robles. Olive oil, vinegar and cheese plates are available for purchase in the tasting room. Dark Water Winery is by appointment only. Each tasting appointment is customized and the average tasting fee is $15.
